GERB and Peevski are trying to maintain maximum control over this justice system. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by acad. Nikolay Denkov, co-chair of the PP-DB parliamentary group.
"They are trying to return the justice system to the times of Borisov's last government".
He still defined the suspension of Sarafov's election as Prosecutor General as a step in the right direction.
"But they left both him and Cholakov at the head of these two institutions for another six months - with the clear awareness that they were violating the Constitution".
Denkov reported that this stage of the political crisis had ended.
"For the first time in a long time, GERB has taken direct political responsibility for forming a government.
However, such a configuration hides several risks - how will they combine the different points of view on European issues - the eurozone, aid for Ukraine, with regard to judicial reform, how to protect themselves from attempts at influence by Peevski".
We need to carefully monitor how the teams in the individual ministries will be formed, he explained in the program "Nedelya 150".
"What came out as information about the head of the cabinet of the Minister of Internal Affairs shows that there will be problems there. Daniel Mitov does not know this system well. Apparently someone suggested this person to him. If he wants to maintain the respect of the people, Mitov should find another one as soon as possible.
Denkov indicated that the PP-DB will fight for transparent procedures in filling the regulators.
"We have always wanted there to be no quota principle".
He commented on the text messages shown by Delyan Peevski, which the leader of the DPS - New Beginning claims were sent by Kiril Petkov and Nikolay Denkov.
"It doesn't matter whether they are real. They show that Peevski is always trying to impose himself, whoever is in the government. One of them showed that he called me three times, until I finally told him: "Okay, now I can call you". There is nothing special in these text messages. He will continue to call the current ministers in the same way.
We are talking about September-October 2023, when the changes to the Constitution were most actively discussed. They were a condition for the Netherlands to lift the veto on Schengen. When it became clear that the rotation would not be implemented, I cut off all communication with Peevski".
Peevski's role was related to ensuring two-thirds, where a qualified majority is needed, Denkov pointed out.
"That is why there were contacts. In these contacts, he repeatedly made various demands. In most cases, they were insufficiently reasoned and were not implemented. I never said that we did not have communication".
