The Governing Council of the Bulgarian National Bank has decided to withdraw from circulation the commemorative coins issued in 2019, which will cease to be legal tender as of 03.02.2025.
After this date, the commemorative coins issued in 2019 will be exchanged at the cash desks of the Bulgarian National Bank at face value, without any quantity restrictions, without a fee and with an exchange period until 31.12.2026.
The program for minting commemorative coins and printing commemorative banknotes of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) in 2025 envisages the issuance of six coins, the bank announced on its website.
In January, the BNB will mint a gold coin "St. Virgin Mary - Golden Apple" with a face value of 10, 20, 50 and 100 leva.
In April, a silver coin with a face value of 10 leva "175 years since the birth of Zahari Stoyanov" will be minted.
A copper coin with a face value of two leva "100 years since the birth of Georgi Partsalev" is scheduled for June, Pariteni.bg reports.
In July, the BNB will mint a silver coin with a face value of 10 leva "175 years since the birth of Ivan Vazov".
The silver coin with a face value of 10 leva "125 years of Emergency Medical Care in Bulgaria" will be minted in October, and in December the gold coin with a face value of 100 leva "St. Patriarch Evtimii of Tarnovski".
The preliminary coinage program of the BNB for 2026 and 2027 envisages the minting of 12 more commemorative coins.
