We need both a qualitative and quantitative change in the curricula to free up time for teachers and students. This was said by the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev during a meeting with over 200 pedagogical specialists and principals from Lovech and the region.

„These meetings on the ground are extremely important, because we can only make a real and qualitative change together. That is why I want to discuss all measures with the teachers and principals and together outline the upcoming steps”, said Minister Valchev. According to him, most of his messages are aimed at mathematics and natural sciences, because there the results of students have fallen the most in recent years, but reforms are needed in all areas - assessment, teaching time, curriculum, etc. He also emphasized how important the work on the Coverage Mechanism is. “I know how difficult and sometimes thankless this activity is. But in the long term it gives serious results and we rely on you to continue to report greater successes in working with vulnerable groups and inclusion”, emphasized Krasimir Valchev.

Earlier in the day, the Minister also inspected the construction of a new playground at the Specialized Language High School “Exarch Joseph I” - Lovech, which is financed by the Ministry of Education with 200 thousand leva under the institution's program for the renovation of the schools' sports facilities. Krasimir Valchev also examined the new building of the high school, for which nearly 2 million leva were allocated. The school is currently building a STEM center with funds from the State Educational Service, which will unite 5 classrooms. The high school is among the leaders in the region, attracting students from neighboring districts, and over the years there have been graduates from Svishtov, Sofia region, Kazanlak and even Chepelare. “Teachers and students are the essence of a school and the successes that the high school achieves are due to you”, the minister addressed the director Ivo Raynov and the staff.

Minister Valchev was also the first guest of the student podcast of the Profiled Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School - Lovech. He, together with the director Ventsislav Georgiev, cut the ribbon of the newly built audio-visual studio in the school, which also expands the STEM space of the high school. The minister toured the classrooms and talked to the students about the importance of mathematics and natural sciences for realization in a changing world. They also showed him how the meteorological station that the high school has functions. “Study to be knowledgeable, capable and happy, not just for the sake of grades!”, he wished the graduates of the mathematics high school.

The mayor of Lovech Stratsimir Petkov, the deputy regional governor Neli Chitinova and the head of the RUO-Lovech Ivanichka Burovska participated in the minister's meetings in Lovech.
