A new missile factory was opened in the Arsenalet industrial park in Norway. The opening of the new facility significantly increases the missile production capacity of the military equipment company KONGSBERG.
„Interest in NSM and JSM missiles has grown over the past decade, and they are now the leading fifth-generation strike missiles in 13 countries, including Norway, NATO countries and other close allies,” said Eric Lee, president of Kongsberg Defense & ; Aerospace.
„This building is the result of a number of expansions we have made over the past few years in response to the growing demand for our sea-based strike missiles from our expanding customer base. The facility exponentially increases the annual productivity of NSM and JSM missiles, “ Lee added.
In 2021, the construction of the new plant began, in response to the steady increase in orders for strike missiles. Earlier this year, the company received funding from the Norwegian government and the EU's ASAP ammunition production support program to further expand production capacity.
„Our new missile production facility directly responds to the high and long-term demand for our unique technology and the critical need to strengthen collective defense capabilities. When we decided to invest in a new rocket production facility, we already had a significant increase in demand from existing and new customers. The geopolitical situation at the moment has further strengthened the need for our defense products and technologies - both in Norway and internationally.
