The priest in charge of the New York church in which pop star Sabrina Carpenter filmed provocative scenes for a music video, was stripped of its powers, the Associated Press reported, as quoted by dariknews.bg, citing church officials.

The conducted investigation has also shown other examples of bad management.

Rev. Jamie Gigantiello has been released from his commitments to "any pastoral oversight or management role" in the church located in the "Williamsburg" in Brooklyn, Bishop Robert Brennan said in a statement.

An investigation that began after the video revealed that Gigantiello made unauthorized financial transfers to a former top adviser in the administration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is under investigation on corruption charges, Brennan said.

According to him, evidence was found of serious violations of diocesan policies and protocols. "In order to maintain public trust and protect church funds, I have appointed Bishop Witold Mroziewski to lead the parish," Brennan informed, quoted by the Associated Press.

Gigantiello was stripped of his administrative duties after Carpenter's video for her song Feathers drew criticism last November. Now he is also deprived of pastoral duties. Gigantiello will still be able to celebrate Masses, but with Mroziewski's approval, says diocesan spokeswoman Adriana Rodriguez.
