Former Argentina international Fernando Gago to lead Boca Juniors VIDEO

Boca Juniors appointed Fernando Gago as head coach , the club announced, BNR reported.

The former Argentine soccer international returns to the team where he made his debut in 2004.

38-year-old Gago replaces Diego Martinez, who resigned last month after three consecutive losses in the Argentine league.

"Gago signed his contract with Boca and is the new coach of the club. Welcome home Fernando", the team wrote on social networks.

The former defensive midfielder played for Real (Madrid), Roma and Valencia before returning to Argentine football in 2013 to once again play for Boca. He ended his career as a footballer at Veles Sarsfield.

As a manager, he led Racing Club to the Argentine Champions Trophy and the International Super Cup after a stint at Aldosiví de Mar del Plata.

Gago, who took over at Chivas in December, said last Thursday he would be leaving the Mexican club.
