Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who is facing dismissal, said on Friday that media speculation about his job in recent weeks was baseless, adding that the atmosphere at the Premier League club was calm, BTA reported.

The work of the Dutch specialist has been closely followed after United finished eighth in the Premier League last season and currently sit in just 14th place with eight points from seven games played.

"The noise comes from the media, some of you, not all of you. Some of you make up stories, make up stories and tales, make noise and make up various things. I know we are all on the same page in this club. I said this before the break to some journalists who probably didn't believe me as I saw the reports. It's quiet inside the club," Ten Haag told the media.

The Dutchman admitted he was unhappy with United's form but insisted it will improve with time. Tomorrow, the 20-time champions of England welcome Brentford.

"We have to get through this. We are quiet and calm, sticking to the plan and confident that we will move forward. We face challenges in football, sometimes we go up or down. "I'm sure we'll have success like we've done in the last two seasons," he added after United won the League Cup in 2023 and won the FA Cup last season.

"I see good things, good models and good statistics - this confirms that we are in the right direction, but the ranking (in the table) does not lie. We are where we are, and that's not good enough," Erik ten Haag added.

Manchester United ranks among the bottom three clubs in the Premier League in terms of goals scored, with just five this season.

"We have to start scoring - that is the most important part. We are entering the final third and the penalty area, we are in good positions for a goal and now we have to take the most important step - to score," Ten Haag also said.
