After taking office as president of the Bulgarian Football Union a year ago, Georgi Ivanov has drastically increased the salary of Bulgaria's coach Ilian Iliev, writes sportal.bg, quoted by Topsport.
Until that moment, the leader of the "tricolors" received 20,000 leva per month, and the new boss of the football union made it 30,000 leva. Despite the drastic increase, Iliev is paid much less than the previous coach of the "lions" Mladen Krastaic. The Serb signed for less than 25,000 euros per month.
We recall that Krastaic failed miserably at the helm of Bulgaria, and the call-ups he sent often caused bewilderment in the football community. The poor results forced the then president of the Bulgarian Football Union, Borislav Mihaylov, to fire him at the end of October 2023 and on November 1, 2023. to urgently appoint Ilian Iliev, who apparently agreed to take over the team for a salary 2.5 times lower than that of Krstajic.
On top of that, the Serb and his assistants managed to condemn the BFU in FIFA for 312,000 euros, and the football union is currently appealing the decision before the CAS in Lausanne.
Iliyev stabilized Bulgaria's results, for which he also received an increase in his salary in the amount of 10,000 leva.
