The Chinese brand BYD will invest one billion dollars in the construction of a huge car plant in Turkey. According to Albert Saydam, president of the Association of Auto Parts Suppliers (TAYSAD), this is the first time in 27 years that a foreign investor has entered the Turkish automotive sector.
The construction of the plant is planned in the western province of Manisa. Construction work will begin in early 2025 with the help of Chinese specialists. The launch of the first conveyor is planned for the first quarter of 2026. The capacity of the site, called BYD Türkiye Otomotiv, is expected to be about 200 thousand cars per year.
The implementation of the project will provide jobs for 12,000 people. We remind you that since the summer of this year representatives of the BYD concern have been negotiating with Turkish suppliers of seats, plastic, sheet metal, as well as other parts and tires. At the same time, the management of the Chinese brand has already signed an agreement with the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology for construction and the future plant.
