Heavy Armored Clash! The Ukrainian army stopped the most powerful Russian tank attack since the beginning of the war - 1

On Saturday, March 30, in the Avdeevka region, the Russian army carried out perhaps one of the largest tank attacks against Ukrainian positions since February 24, 2022.

"When the smoke cleared, the Russians left a third of their tanks on the road west of the ruins of Avdeevka," Forbes wrote.

Forty-eight tanks and combat vehicles attacked simultaneously west of Avdeevka — and have been suspended.

According to the publication, several weeks before Saturday's assault, the Russians used mostly infantry to advance west of the city. The reason is the lack of vehicles after the heavy losses during the capture of Avdeevka in mid-February.

The situation has changed in recent days. On the Avdeev direction, Russian forces used armored vehicles, including tanks. 36 tanks and 12 BMPs from the Russian Army's 6th Tank Regiment, part of the 90th Tank Division, attacked along the road leading from the Russian-occupied village of Tonenkoe to the Ukrainian-held village of Umanske, 4m to the west.

The Ukrainian 25th Brigade spotted the column and struck it hard. 12 tanks and 8 infantry fighting vehicles were hit.

A day after the attack, the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies described the fighting around Tonenkoe as "positional," meaning neither side had made significant advances.

Forbes suggests that despite problems with the supply of basic ammunition, the Ukrainian brigades are still able to mount a "fierce defense using mines, artillery, anti-tank missiles and attack drones".
