World leaders and World War II veterans are in Colville-sur-Mer, France, for the culmination of three days of ceremonies marking The 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, reports the BBC.

King Charles III, French President Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave speeches paying tribute to soldiers who fought in World War II.

US President Joe Biden compared the entry of Allied forces in 1944 to NATO's current efforts to support Ukraine.

"We know the dark forces these heroes fought 80 years ago. They will never fade. Aggression and greed, desire to dominate and control, to change boundaries by force. They are eternal. The struggle between dictatorship and freedom is endless. Here in Europe we see a clear example: Ukraine was invaded by a tyrant seeking dominance. The Ukrainians fought with extraordinary bravery, suffered heavy losses, but did not retreat. The United States and NATO - and a coalition of more than 50 countries - stand firmly behind Ukraine. We will not back down," the US president said in his speech.

"Make no mistake, we will not bow down, we cannot surrender to the aggressors, this is simply unthinkable. If we do this, freedom will be defeated, all of Europe will be at risk," Joe Biden said.
