TASS state agency quoted Zelensky as saying that he “understands the need to end the conflict as soon as possible”.
„I think we all understand that we have to end the war as soon as possible, of course,”, he said at a meeting in Kiev with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. Zelensky also called Parolin's visit a “strong signal from the Vatican”.
A few days ago, in an interview with the British BBC, Zelensky talked about the possibility of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite the decree in force in Ukraine, prohibiting such negotiations. The Ukrainian president also said that Russian representatives should participate in the second peace conference.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly stated their readiness to negotiate with Ukraine to resolve the conflict.
