Small plane with 19 people on board crashes when taking off from the international airport in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, the Associated Press reported, as quoted by BTA.
The pilot survived and was transported to a hospital in the capital for treatment, a doctor from the hospital said. The flight of the regional airline “Sauria“ was supposed to fly from Kathmandu to the city of Pokhara. The plane was carrying 17 technicians to repair another plane, Reuters reported, citing local officials.
„Only the captain was rescued and taken to hospital,” said the spokesman of Kathmandu International Airport, quoted by Reuters.
The airline has “Bombardier CRJ 200” planes that fly on domestic routes.
Nepal has been criticized for its poor level of flight safety, and nearly 350 people have died in plane or helicopter crashes in the country since 2000, Reuters noted.
