The German chancellor proposes a new peace conference with the participation of Russia, amid growing political pressure in Germany, quoted by BTA.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for new efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine and said that he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the need for a new peace conference in which Russia would also participate, Reuters reported.

"I think now is the time to discuss how to achieve peace in this war, and faster,", Scholz said in an interview with Cet De Ef television.

Scholz is under pressure in Germany after all three parties in his centre-left coalition suffered heavy defeats in last week's provincial elections, and parties seeking closer ties with Russia won more votes.

The nationalist party "Alternative for Germany" and the recently established "Sara Wagenknecht" Union, which opposes military aid to Ukraine, scored high.

Zelensky said in June that he aimed to draw up a plan by November for Kiev to organize a second international meeting dedicated to peace in Ukraine, which would also include Russian representatives.
