The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, placed Serbia among the most successful countries in the world in terms of information security. In the new report "Global Information Security Index" cited by the TANYUG agency, Serbia is included in the highest of the five groups of countries with an advanced level of cyber security. In the same group are also Slovenia, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, quoted by BTA.
The report ranks countries based on five key components: legal framework, technical measures, organizational measures, capacity building and international cooperation. Bulgaria is placed in group three along with North Macedonia and Montenegro, while Albania, Croatia and Romania fall into group two. The lowest among the Balkan countries is Bosnia and Herzegovina, ranked in the fourth group.
ITU was founded in 1865 and since 1947 has been functioning as a specialized agency of the United Nations. The organization aims to regulate the international use of radio frequencies and information technology, bringing together 193 countries and over 700 representatives from various industries.
