UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is seriously concerned about the sharp escalation of events in Beirut in recent 24 hours and calls for an end to hostilities.
„The Secretary-General is deeply troubled by the sharp escalation of events in Beirut over the past 24 hours. This cycle of violence must end immediately and all parties must step back from the brink. The people of Lebanon, Israel and the entire region cannot afford a full-scale war. “It calls on the parties to reaffirm their commitment to the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006) and to immediately return to a cessation of hostilities”. This was told to reporters by the official representative of the Secretary General of the organization Stefan Dujarric.
Dujarric added that Guterres “also reiterates his calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages held there".
