The Norwegian government is considering building fence along the border with Russia, Norwegian Minister of Justice Emily Mell said. “This is a measure that can become relevant either for the entire border or for some of its sections”, Norwegian state broadcaster NRK quoted Mel as saying.
Norwegian authorities have started thinking about building a fence after a similar measure was implemented by Finland. “Border fences are very interesting not only because of the deterrent effect, but also because they contain sensors and technology that can be used to detect people moving close to the border,“, Mell noted.
Norway has a 198 km land border with Russia, the TV and radio company notes.
