Turkey blocks eSIM cards for foreigners - 1

Turkey blocks 8 international eSIM services. The decision limits the options available to users traveling abroad, reports akdenizmanset.

The Turkish Information and Communications Technology Agency (BTK) has blocked access to 8 different service providers. They include Saily, Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Instabridge, Mobimatter, Alosim and BNESIM. The move sparked outrage among digital SIM card users. Since these platforms used digital SIM card (eSIM) technology, they allowed tourists to use mobile internet without having to connect to local operators. They offered an affordable alternative, especially for those who wanted to avoid high roaming charges.

Travelers may now face more limited options and higher mobile service costs, as local SIM cards and roaming charges are usually more expensive.

Although BTK has not yet officially published its rationale, experts believe that the decision is aimed at protecting the interests of local operators.
