New NATO chief: I have no concerns about US support for Ukraine - 1

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said he was not worried that American support for Ukraine would end if Donald Trump were to become president of the United States again. The Republican presidential candidate has repeatedly said the war in Ukraine must end quickly. This was reported by the National Information Agency of the Netherlands ANP, quoted by BTA.

The NATO Secretary General had a “good conversation” in London with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Asked afterward about Trump's possible return to the White House, Rutte said he was not worried about U.S. support for Ukraine in the future and that he would work with President Joe Biden's successor, whoever that would be.

Rutte said that as prime minister of the Netherlands he worked with Trump for four years and knew him well. “I know that he fully understands and agrees with me that this fight in Ukraine is not only about Ukraine.“ According to Rutte, it is also about the security of the United States. “He knows that,”, declared the Secretary General.

Regarding Ukraine's call for allies to allow long-range weapons supplied by the allies themselves to be used for attacks on targets in Russia, Rutte said it was up to individual countries to decide whether to grant permission. The Secretary-General emphasized that one weapon system will not be what changes the war.
