Storm Nadine kills at least two in Mexico - 1

At least two people died as Tropical Storm “Nadine” in Southeast Mexico, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.

The storm caused floods, overflowing rivers and landslides in the state of Chapas, which borders Guatemala. Roads, homes and various facilities were damaged by the storm.

This is at least the fourth such event in Mexico this hurricane season. The most devastating was Cyclone John, which claimed the lives of 16 people in the state of Guerrero, in southern Mexico, and caused numerous material damages in the resort of Acapulco, devastated last year by the powerful hurricane Otis.

Hurricane "Oscar" made landfall in the eastern part of Cuba, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.

The disaster occurred in the province of Guantanamo, near the city of Baracoa. The storm is accompanied by winds with a speed of almost 130 kilometers per hour.

The hurricane hit the island nation at a time when it has been experiencing a near-total blackout since Friday due to problems with its energy infrastructure. Authorities had promised to try to restore power by tonight, but the hurricane is likely to complicate efforts in that direction.
