Claims that an entrance fee will be introduced in shopping malls in Turkey have stirred spirits in the country. The topic quickly became a hot topic on social media and sparked a wave of reactions.
Many mainstream media have also published the claims that entrance to the malls will become paid and that citizens will have to pay one Turkish lira at the entrance to enter. According to the publications, the goal is to cover the costs of the shopping centers with the collected funds.
The chairman of the Turkish Association of Investors in Shopping Centers, Nuri Şapkaçu, however, later dismissed the claims as "speculations", the website Haberler reported. Shapkadzh pointed out that such an idea is not being worked on, and such publications are "fiction".
