Over 200,000 copies of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel's book – “Freedom: A Memoir 1954 – 2021“ were sold only in the first week after its appearance in bookstores, thus making the 736-page book the best-selling book of this year, DPA reported, citing BTA.
The information was released by the company "Media Control", which monitors book sales in Germany. The ranking of bestsellers prepared by magazine “Spiegel“ also confirms Merkel's success.
“No other book this year has had such a spectacular start”, said the executive director of “Media Control“ Ulrike Altig a few days after the former chancellor's memoirs hit the book market. Merkel's co-author is her longtime colleague Beate Baumann.
