The administration of US President Donald Trump has fired dozens of prosecutors involved in the investigation of the 2021 Capitol riot, the Associated Press reported.
The new administration has requested lists of FBI officials involved in the same, the agency said.
“Deputy Attorney General Emile Beauvais ordered the prosecutors fired days after Trump's sweeping pardons for more than 1,500 people accused of the attack on the Capitol,“ the report said.
Trump has previously said that it is excessive to prosecute those who stormed the Capitol and that they should be pardoned. He noted that the cases his administration has reviewed show that "these are people who truly love the United States".
On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and shut down Congress for several hours.
