A temporary outage in a key system for sending messages to pilots in the United States could lead to flight delays today, US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, quoted by Reuters, BTA writes.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is working to restore the NOTAM system for sending messages to pilots, Duffy said in a post on the "Ex" network.
"There are no consequences for national aviation and infrastructure at this time, as a backup system has been activated," he noted.
The FAA has opened a communication hotline and will send notifications every 30 minutes with up-to-date information on the status of the system, Duffy added.
In January 2023, an outage in the NOTAM system led to the first nationwide suspension of flights in the United States since 2001. since, which disrupted more than 11,000 flights, Reuters notes.
