Lexuses now with msde stamp in China

Toyota really plays vabank

The Japanese premium brand Lexus is on the verge of a historic transformation that will forever change the way the brand operates on the global stage. For the first time in its history, Toyota will open its own factory for its luxury division in China, ending the era in which Lexus models for this market were only imported. Li Hui, head of Toyota China, threw the cards on the table, revealing an ambitious plan that combines a technological leap with a large-scale industrial expansion.

The big news for fans of refined comfort is the official market debut of the new generation Lexus ES, scheduled for April 2026. After attracting attention at the Shanghai Motor Show last year, the sedan is now ready to attack the roads. But this is not just a new design - beneath the graceful lines lies a radically modernized architecture. The new ES is a true technological “chameleon”, offering a flexibility that competitors only dream of. Chinese customers will be able to choose between the familiar hybrid ES 300h and two all-electric versions – ES 350e and the flagship ES 500e.

But while the new sedan will delight the eye on the boulevards, the real revolution is happening in the Jinshan Industrial Zone in Shanghai. There, hard work is already underway to build a new plant, which, according to Ma Li, general manager of Lexus (Shanghai) New Energy, will be fully ready by August 2026. This is not just another assembly hall, but a high-tech center with a full cycle. It will be born not only electric cars, but also their “hearts” - traction batteries.

Toyota is really playing the game! It is extremely curious that this enterprise is 100% owned by the Japanese giant. In a country like China, where Western and Eastern brands are traditionally forced to enter into complex joint ventures with local companies, this move is a clear signal of enormous trust and strategic weight. The signing of official contracts with the authorities in Shanghai solidifies Lexus' positions, guaranteeing them autonomy in decision-making and the speed of development that is critical in today's era of mobility.

When the assembly lines are fully operational in 2027, they will produce up to 100,000 cars per year. Local production will allow the brand not only to optimize its logistics and costs, but also to react quickly to the whims of the largest automotive market in the world. Lexus is no longer just a guest in China - it is moving in permanently.
