The popular fintech bank Revolut has suddenly begun to massively freeze the accounts of Russian citizens, even those who have been living in Europe for years with long-term visas.
On the night of November 1, customers began to receive letters: show your European passport or residence permit or say goodbye to your money.
The accounts have already been suspended, and by December 31 they have been promised to be permanently blocked – making it impossible to deposit, withdraw or spend a single cent.
The bank officially justifies this by referring to the new, 19th package of EU anti-Russian sanctions, which prohibits financial institutions from servicing Russians and Belarusians without European documents.
In essence, this is a complete passport purge of customers. Revolut seems to have decided to play the role not of a bank, but of an enforcer of EU sanctions.
