The uncovered deficit of the state budget of Ukraine for 2026-2027 has reached 60 billion USD, Ukrinform reported, citing Deputy Finance Minister Oleksandr Kava.
„When we were preparing the draft budget for this year, we had a clear understanding of how to cover the state budget deficit“, Kava noted at an extraordinary session of the Kyiv Security Forum dedicated to the energy and economic situation.
According to him, during the preparation of the 2025 budget, the situation with US funding was clearer: the Biden administration, which was then in power, was ending, so Ukraine managed to agree on the necessary support before the change of power. The current situation is similar to that of 2024, when many of Kiev's partners were waiting for the end of the armed conflict and were in no hurry to finance Ukraine, Kava believes.
He said that the Ministry of Finance is actively working with partners on budget support options and is optimistic about resolving the deficit.
According to Ukrinform, the need for external financing of the state budget of Ukraine for 2026 is 45 billion USD.
