Dimitar Margaritov: We will yet see on the shelves the goods that are now being transported at higher prices

Bogomir Nikolov: We are bringing inflation and we have no chance with our own production to oppose this trend

A study by the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions shows that the Easter meal this year costs us 11% more than last year.

„The individual basket of each of us is different. There is a kozunak for 3 euros and for 30 euros. The prices can be very diverse. Here the role of the consumer is how to make the most profitable choice for themselves“, said in „This Saturday“ the executive director of „Active Consumers“ Bogomil Nikolov.

„All this instability in the world does not bode well in terms of prices. I assume that in the future it is possible that this trend will continue on a global scale. This means that we have to adapt as well as possible“, he said.

According to him, there is an option in which this conflict could end abruptly and the situation could improve, but for the moment there are no such prospects.

“We have to prepare for the worst, and pray for the best“, Nikolov pointed out.

“An ECB study shows that in Bulgaria, the introduction of the euro had a one-time impact of about 0.3% on price increases. "Without a doubt, what is happening in the Middle East today affects prices," commented former Chairman of the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) Dimitar Margaritov.

According to him, this will still affect prices, because the processes have not yet affected what is happening on the store counter.

„There you buy goods that may have been transported when the price of fuel was about 25% lower. That is, we will still see on the shelves what the trucks are now carrying at the already higher price. The big question is how long this will continue and how long this conflict will develop over time," explained Margaritov.

„I have been repeating for a long time that our main problem on the market is the decreasing production of fruits and vegetables and everything related to livestock farming. "This is a huge national problem because it condemns us to a lack of food security and import prices. We are importing inflation as it is in the world and we have no chance to counteract this trend with our own production," commented Bogomil Nikolov.
