Basic foods become cheaper

A decline in the prices of some basic food products on the country's stock exchanges during the week is shown by the data in the weekly bulletin of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets.

The market price index (MPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, decreased minimally by 0.08 percent to 2.405 points. Last week, the MPI was at a level of 2.407 points. The base level of the MPI - 1,000 points, is from 2005.

Chicken meat becomes cheaper by 0.8 percent to 6.70 leva per kilogram. The price of cow's cheese is down by 1.5 percent to 11.32 leva per kilogram, and the price of "Vitosha" cheese remains unchanged at 18.46 leva per kilogram.

Eggs (size M) are cheaper by 0.7 percent and are traded at 0.35 leva per piece wholesale. Butter (125 gram package) is also cheaper - by 0.8 percent to 3.14 leva per piece.

During the week, the price of fresh milk (3 percent fat content) increased by 0.4 percent to 2.42 leva per liter, and yogurt (3 and over 3 percent fat content) increased by 1.6 percent to 1.39 leva per 400 gram bucket.

The price of lentils is decreasing - by 1.5 percent to 4.41 leva per kilogram, as well as of ripe beans - by 3.5 percent to 4.28 leva per kilogram, while rice is increasing in price - by 1.9 percent to 3.39 leva per kilogram.

Type 500 flour is decreasing in price by 3.4 percent to 1.43 leva per kilogram. Sugar is cheaper by 0.8 percent to 1.80 leva per kilogram, and oil - by 0.5 percent to 3.24 leva per liter.

Among vegetables, cucumbers have fallen the most in price - by 10.7 percent to 2.68 leva per kilogram, turnips - by 8.8 percent to 1.01 leva per piece, and tomatoes - by 5.9 percent and are traded at 2.93 leva per kilogram. Carrots are cheaper by 0.4 percent and are offered at 1.25 leva per kilogram.

The price of ripe onions has increased the most significantly - by 13.4 percent to 1.42 leva per kilogram and cabbage - by 10 percent to 1.89 leva per kilogram. Lettuce is up 7 percent to 1.07 leva per piece. Potatoes are up 3.2 percent and are traded at 1.39 leva per kilogram, and fresh potatoes - up 6.1 percent to 4.30 leva per kilogram.

Among fruits, oranges are up 1.3 percent to 2.27 leva per kilogram, bananas - up 0.3 percent to 2.88 leva per kilogram. Apples remain unchanged and are traded at 1.85 leva per kilogram. Lemons are cheaper - up 0.9 percent to 2.76 leva per kilogram.
