Severe fires in Spain have caused damage to agriculture, which is already estimated at around 600 million euros, reports the newspaper El Periódicowith reference to data from the Spanish agricultural association COAG, which warns that preliminary estimates may be underestimated.

“The initial estimate, which is still preliminary, could be around 600 million euros, although, of course, these figures will be higher“, the publication quotes the representative of the organization Javier Fatas.

According to farmers, beekeepers have suffered the greatest losses - the fire has destroyed at least 10 000 beehives, which will be very difficult to restore in the coming years. No less severe consequences await livestock farming. “Thousands of hectares of pasture have disappeared, which means that livestock will need additional food in the coming months until the land recovers,” said Fatas.

The situation with forest fires in Spain became particularly acute last week, when several large fires were registered simultaneously. In total, since the beginning of August, more than 115,000 hectares of land have burned as a result of a series of fires in various regions of the kingdom.
