Japanese companies are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) when looking for suppliers to reduce costs from US trade tariffs, NHK television reported.

Fujitsu is among the developers of relevant programs. Its system collects large amounts of data on suppliers around the world, including information on tariff rates, counterparty reliability and other information.

Based on the analysis, artificial intelligence recommends suppliers and delivery routes that will help ensure stable supplies with minimal tariff costs.

Toshiba provides a similar service. Its specialists have created a system that automatically displays the cost of purchasing a particular product using data on tariffs in different countries.

In July, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announcedthat Tokyo and Washington had reached an agreement that involves reducing tariffs on Japanese goods by the United States from the previously announced 25% to 15%. In addition, American tariffs on imports of Japanese cars, introduced in April, will be reduced to 15%. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the countries had concluded a “large-scale deal“, within the framework of which Japan, in particular, will invest 550 billion EUR in the American economy.
