Next year: Increasing the number of sections for measuring average speed

The system will also begin to detect drivers who drive dangerously. The cameras will be able to recognize whether the distance between cars is being maintained and whether the trucks are moving in the right lane.

New sections on which average speed will be measured will be added in 2026. This was announced by the Director of the National Toll Administration Eng. Oleg Asenov on Nova TV. The system will also begin to detect drivers who drive dangerously. The cameras will be able to recognize whether the distance between cars is being maintained and whether the trucks are moving in the right lane.

Several records have been recorded since the introduction of average speed detection in July. The highest average speed recorded was 248 km/h, and the highest instantaneous speed was 272 km/h.

"We currently see that there is a need for these sections to be multiplied in Northwestern Bulgaria and in Ludogorie. Together with colleagues from the Ministry of Interior and under their methodological guidance, we are determining which sections should be next. We also plan to expand the checkpoints for weighing in motion," explained Asenov.
