If anyone in parliament cared about citizens, this would be the first item on the agenda tomorrow, the former ombudsman said

“After the double January electricity bills, the EDPs are already preparing us for at least another 11% increase in February.” This was commented by the chairwoman of the civic platform Stand Up.BG Maya Manolova in her post on social networks, after “Energo-pro” announced that the average household consumption this month is 11% higher than the record high in January.

“And what is KEVR doing? What are the MPs doing? What is Boyko Borisov's Minister of Energy doing? Nothing.” - said the former ombudsman.

“If anyone in parliament cared about citizens, tomorrow the first item on the agenda would be a hearing of the Energy Regulatory Commission and the Minister of Energy. In the open, in front of everyone's eyes, and not like the one held quietly, at the last minute, by the Energy Committee last week, which no one found out about.” - Manolova was categorical.

We recall that last Wednesday, the chairwoman of the Energy Committee, Pavela Mitova from the Ministry of Energy, convened a meeting of the relevant committee at the last minute, at 6:45 p.m. The meeting heard the Minister of Energy, the chairwoman of the Energy Regulatory Commission and representatives of the three ERCs. Due to the last-minute scheduling of the meeting, citizens and civil society organizations were unable to participate and ask their questions about electricity bills.

“The Energy Regulatory Commission and the Minister of Energy must urgently answer the following questions:

Why were households and will they be “charged” with bills up to several times higher?

Is it possible for the EPRs to supply low-voltage electricity in order to report a higher amount from the electricity meters?

How is it possible for a household with a 350 BGN bill in November to receive a bill of 900 EURO in January?!

What did the KEVR inspection of the EPRs show?

Why are the deposed parliamentary majority, led by GERB, and Borisov's Minister of Energy acting as impartial observers for the third week?

How is a pensioner with an income of 350 euros expected to pay an electricity bill of 200 euros?”- asked Manolova.

In her words, in addition to asking the questions that interest citizens, the deputies should insist on the KEVR ordering the EPRs to do not collect the appealed bills and do not cut off the electricity supply to citizens who have filed complaints.

“After helping dozens of citizens appeal their bills, my team and I are working on amendments to the Energy Act that would prohibit the EPCs from cutting off electricity to households if consumption is more than 10% higher than the previous month and if the subscriber appeals.” - announced Manolova.
