At its first meeting after the congress, at which Krum Zarkov was elected chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the National Council of the BSP elected the new composition of the party's Executive Bureau.
The decision was made at the proposal of Zarkov himself and marks the official start of the party's preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections on April 19.
„The plenum passed successfully in camaraderie and understanding. This corresponds to our concept of renewal through respect", Zarkov said at a press conference.
According to Sergey Stanishev Krum Zarkov has made a strong request for changes in the BSP in order to be useful to society.
„For me, the most important thing is for the BSP to present itself in the best possible way in the upcoming parliamentary elections“, said Borislav Gutsanov.
Until today's plenum, the BSP was in a transitional period – the close leadership resigned back in December, and the then-chairwoman Kornelia Ninova announced that she would leave her post during the congress.
Zarkov also commented on the predictions for the – – – of the BSP:
„The prophecies about the end of the BSP will not come true. On the contrary – the party is moving towards recovery. And this will not happen only with personnel changes. The party will return to Bulgarian and European politics with its own image and clear positions.“
Regarding the speculation that some of the sympathizers and members of the left are looking towards Rumen Radev's future project, Krum Zarkov was categorical:
„We have started to retain our members and sympathizers. They cannot be replaced by another party – this is their political family. Those who talk about a drain from the BSP do not know the party well enough.“
