A powerful GPS jammer was discovered and neutralized in a joint operation by the National Security Agency, the Ministry of Interior and the Communications Regulation Commission. The device was installed on the roof of a building in a strictly guarded complex in the capital's "Dragalevtsi" district, bTV recalled.
The inspection came about after problems with the aircraft's navigation system. According to unofficial information, the jammer was powerful enough to create interference in a significant area in Sofia, including affecting navigation systems and television signals.
An operation also followed in the area of the village of Kapitan Andreevo. According to unofficial information, a large amount of equipment was seized during the searches, including video storage devices. Weapons and radio stations were also found in the Dragalevtsi complex.
According to unofficial information, the properties in the complex are associated with Christoforos Amanatidis-Taki and Razmig Chakaryan-Ami. At the moment, however, there is no official confirmation of a connection between them and the discovered silencer, as well as clarity on whether there are any detainees in the case.
According to former Minister of Interior Emanuil Yordanov, at this stage the information is too scarce to draw any definitive conclusions.
“With so few facts that have been clarified, it seems to me that there was no need to make the case public“, commented Yordanov.
According to him, first it must be clarified what exactly the discovered device is, what its technical characteristics are and what condition it is in. This must be done through forensic technical expertise.
Only after that can it be assessed whether it is an administrative violation or a crime. In the event of a crime, according to Yordanov, the punishment provided can reach up to five years in prison.
Among the main tasks of the investigators now is to establish the ownership of the property in which the device was installed, as well as its origin.
“There are many things that need to be clarified“, the former interior minister emphasized.
He pointed out that it is necessary to check whether there are documents for the acquisition of the silencer, who purchased it and who had access to it.
Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding the case continues, and the institutions have not yet provided details about the persons who were the subject of the actions, nor whether charges have been filed.
