Weather forecast in Bulgaria on August 25, 2026: Drop in temperatures and summer storms in Western Bulgaria

Where will it rain and thunder on Tuesday and what temperatures await us after the August heat?

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the weather in Bulgaria will mark a smooth transition to more tolerable summer values, accompanied by local precipitation. According to the official bulletin of The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), issued at 14:00 on August 24, after the intense heat, the maximum temperatures in the country will decrease slightly and will remain in the interval between 30° and 35°.

For most of the day, sunny weather will prevail over the country, but around and after noon the air mass over the western half of the country will become unstable. The on-duty weather forecaster Krasimir Stoev indicates in the official forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (weather.bg) that cumulus clouds will develop in the western regions, with short-term showers and thunderstorms expected in places. The wind in most of the country will remain weak to moderate, oriented from the east-southeast.

Weather on the Black Sea Coast: Ideal conditions for a beach without precipitation

Unlike the interior of the country and the mountain ranges, the weather on the Bulgarian coast will remain extremely stable and suitable for sea tourism. According to weather platforms, the Black Sea Coast will be mostly sunny with maximum air temperatures between 26° and 30°. The sea water temperature will be around 24° – 25°, and the light southeast wind will maintain the sea waves to 2 points. The risk of precipitation on the beach for Tuesday is practically zero.

Weather in the mountains: Warning for afternoon thunderstorms

The mountain regions in Western and Central Bulgaria require increased attention from tourists in the afternoon hours. Cumulus-rain clouds will lead to local intense rains and thunderstorms in the Rila-Rhodope massif and the Balkan Mountains. In the morning hours, conditions for mountain hikes will be good, but mountain rescuers advise that routes be planned so that people are in safe shelters before noon.

What's next: Will hailstorms occur on Wednesday?

The forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology (weather.bg) shows that the dynamics in the atmosphere will intensify even more on Wednesday, August 26. A northeasterly wind is expected to bring colder air into our country, which will increase instability. On Wednesday afternoon, powerful cumulus-rain clouds will develop over Northern and Western Bulgaria. In many places there will be heavy short-term precipitation, accompanied by thunderstorms and a high risk of hail, and temperatures will drop by a few more degrees.
