The head of defense, Admiral Emil Eftimov, demanded that 2.5% of GDP should go to defense.

Thus, according to him, the backlog in defense investments will be caught up.

"2.5% of GDP is not much against the background of everything that is happening in the world and the region. Not only Bulgaria is in such a situation, many countries see the need for investments in their defense. Now we have to catch up. In order to catch up, in a few years the rate must be increased in order to be able to solve these critical needs," he said, quoted by novini.bg.

Admiral Eftimov will ask for changes in the Defense Law related to the acquisition of capabilities, the retention of the military and a social package for them. The 2023 Defense Report reported that defense spending was about 1.88% of GDP.
