Bezlov: They take the head of the general secretary every time elections are scheduled in Bulgaria

This is a problem because job titles are not supposed to change

When there are elections in our country, usually the chief secretaries change. Unfortunately, this is characteristic of the unstable democracies in Europe – when there is a political change, the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the revenue agencies and the security services change. This is a problem because professional positions should not change, and the chief secretary is the highest professional position in the Ministry of the Interior.

This is what he said in the show "The Day Live" on Nova News Tihomir Bezlov from the Center for the Study of Democracy. He pointed out that whether the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will remain in the caretaker government depends solely on the Prime Minister.

Whether Mr. Glavchev will remove the interior minister and demand the replacement of the chief secretary is a more complicated path. It is possible to reach a compromise between GERD and "We keep changing – Democratic Bulgaria", although in the last week we see no grounds for this, Bezlov said.

The interior minister, the Ministry of the Interior and the services are part of the clash between political forces, he added.

Relations between the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were problematic even before, but now they have become public, noted Tihomir Bezlov.

The topic of smuggling channels is periodically raised in the political opposition. This metaphor appeals to the average Bulgarian voter, who continues to have the trauma of the mid-1990s, when everything crossed the border and was sold with unpaid duties. Things are much different now, because then there were no European borders. The customs scandal involves some Haskovic intermediaries, these are not big names. There are no big channels like before, Tihomir Bezlov also said.
