Tons of paper ballots are aging in municipal warehouses throughout the country, BNT reported. In most large cities, old ballots are destroyed at special sites. However, there is none in Ruse. What will happen to the election documentation and what the ballots can be used for.

Three weeks before the 2 in 1 vote, the municipal administration must make room for the new ballots. However, the old ones cannot be destroyed because there is no suitable site in the city.

"According to memories, they were destroyed by burning at the TPP in Ruse, but they are no longer destroyed in this way," commented Erdinch Mevlyudov, director of "Administrative Services", Ruse.

The Municipality of Ruse has concluded a contract with a licensed company for the destruction of archival documents, which transports the election papers to Pleven.

The ballots printed on special paper and with a watermark will be recycled using ecological technology and turned into toilet paper, napkins and wet wipes.

"Yesterday we took out the ballots from the previous local elections. 220 sacks, now how much do they weigh, 5-6 pallets. As a number, there are somewhere around 145-150 thousand ballots", added Erdinch Mevludov.

Over BGN 710 million was spent by the state for the 7 votes in the last 3 years.

By law, old ballots are kept until the next scheduled election. However, some of the books are kept.

"Protocols from political party consultations, for the composition of the municipal election commission, for the composition of the sectional election commissions, for the registration of the parties,'' Erdinch Mevludov also said.

BGN 98,179,000 has been earmarked for holding the elections on June 9.
