A great tragedy happened with a victim. We reacted immediately and teams of "Emergency assistance and prevention" went into the field in coordination with the fire department. We sent six teams to help with surveillance, one of which was attached to a drone with the thermal camera directing the effort, plus teams on the ground. 11 water tankers were dispatched to the scene of the fire to assist in extinguishing the fire. Our teams were there throughout the night helping to evacuate people, provide food and water. This was said by the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, at the beginning of today's meeting of the Sofia Municipal Council, BTA reports.

According to Terziev, another important thing that the Metropolitan Municipality has done is to send an air quality measuring station. We have the most modern one in the country, added Terziev. He explained that there was a very big danger that the clouds from the fire would move towards Sofia, that's why they were constantly in the loop about what the air quality was like. The measurements show that even with the heaviest gassing, the indicators were around the norm, and at the moment they are already under control, explained Terziev.

The mayor thanked the "Emergency Assistance and Prevention" teams, as well as all the volunteers who responded. It is extremely important for us that the city is ready for such adverse events, we constantly invest in the capacity of "Emergency Assistance and Prevention" and all who have relations with the security of our citizens, Terziev also said.

He explained that he tasked the director of "Emergency Assistance and Prevention" to map all bomb shelters and other premises that would be used in earthquakes, floods and fires and disasters of this kind. We will check what condition they are in, who owns them and where they are located, what their capacity is and what needs to be done on them to bring them into shape, Terziev added. At the same time, we will describe the protocols – what is done in this type of events and all this should be developed in a mobile application that will help the citizens, added the mayor of Sofia.
