The urgent and long-term measures that the Ombudsman insists on in his letter today about the lack of water in Pleven were publicly announced to the media yesterday, after a meeting with mayors, regional governors and the management of the Water and Sewerage Holding. The meeting specified the specific commitments of both the Municipality of Pleven, in its capacity as the owner of the water transmission network, and the Water and Sewerage operators, in their capacity as providers of the Water and Sewerage service. Both parties are working on the search for alternative water sources. This is stated in response to the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov's letter calling for urgent measures to be taken for the water crisis in Pleven.

“The search for alternative water sources has been undertaken, but finding them does not depend on political will, but on the natural conditions and technical capabilities of the infrastructure in the region. In this regard, I emphasize that the water transmission network, whose depreciation in most cases is a major problem for the water shortage not only in Pleven, is owned by the municipalities. I assure you that the MRDPW considers and finances with priority all water supply projects submitted by the municipalities in the investment program”, the response also says.
