I believe that justice will be on the side of the victims in the ATV incident in “Sunny Beach”. This was stated to NOVA by Nikolay Popov, father of 12-year-old Siyana, who died in an accident. Regarding the fears of the victims’ family that the parents of 18-year-old Nikola Burgazliev are police officers and could influence the investigation, Nikolay Popov said that he had received such messages.
„I was contacted for this reason by the family. They demanded publicity and justice. There are indeed serious doubts. The people in Nessebar, at least those I spoke to, do not dare to stand in front of a camera, do not dare to speak. At the same time, they send me a lot of messages on Facebook, informing me of what is happening, how there is almost absolute lawlessness and justice is being carried out by other mechanisms, not by the socially and legally accepted ones. I believe that after the case has been accepted by the National Council of the Republic of Bulgaria, they have nothing to worry about”, said Popov. „We have seen enough as a society of shocking cases that have gone unpunished. That is why the relatives currently do not have the confidence that they will receive retribution and justice. Perhaps with the publicity yesterday, some light has shone in the tunnel that there will be retribution”, said rally racer Dimitar Iliev, a road safety expert. “Enforcing the laws is important. What have our police been doing so far? They only measure speed. Yes, but there are much more important violations than speeding - improper overtaking, running a red light. Did you know that almost every accident for which there is no explanation is due to distraction on the phone, for example”, commented the road expert.
“I believe that this will happen, because justice must always be available and be on the side of the victims. There can be no justice with such public interest and such media coverage. There must be justice,” Popov said.
Such behavior encourages aggressors on the roads to continue with violations, to drive arrogantly and to cause accidents. We must have clearly shown people who will pay the price and bear responsibility for their actions. It's high time we see justice”, said Iliev.
