The police in Veliko Tarnovo have notified the Prosecutor General of acts of vandalism committed by the Director of the Territorial Directorate of the National Revenue Agency in the old capital city, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.

The Director of the Revenue Agency in Veliko Tarnovo, Hrisimira Vitanova, smashed the front panoramic window and the rear brake light of a car belonging to a distribution company. The company car was parked in front of Vitanova's garage by an employee of a company from Elena, who was filling up a nearby store.

The victim filed a report with the police, who responded.

The Regional Directorate for Internal Affairs and Internal Security confirmed the incident, which happened yesterday, and indicated that a pre-trial investigation has been initiated.

The investigation is for damage, not hooliganism. The incident has nothing to do with the official work of the director of the Territorial Directorate of the National Revenue Agency, the Regional Prosecutor's Office told BNR.

Although this is a violation by a senior civil servant, the prosecutor's office is not obliged to notify the prosecutor general about this; this was done by the police, the state prosecution stated.

Hrisimira Vitanova was not detained, but was not available for comment.
