Norway won the medal standings at the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina with a record 18 gold medals and a total of 41. The Scandinavian country added 12 silver and 11 bronze medals from 116 disciplines in another dominant performance, BTA reported.

Johannes Klaebo rewrote the record books by grabbing all six gold medals in cross-country skiing and now has a record 11 titles in his Winter Games career. Jens Oftebro won gold in all three Nordic combined events.

Norway previously won the medal standings in 1924, 1928, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1968, 2002, 2014, 2018 and 2022.

The United States is second with 12-12-9 and a total of 33 medals, and the Netherlands took third place with 10-7-3. All first places of the "orange" came in speed skating and short track.

Hosts Italy finished in fourth place with the best performance in their history - 10-6-14, with skier Federica Brignone and speed skater Francesca Lollobrigida taking two gold medals each.

Germany remained outside the top three in fifth place with a score of 8-10-8 and 19 of its 26 awards won in bobsleigh, luge and skeleton.

Among the most notable titles is Lucas Pinheiro Broten's gold in the giant slalom - the first medal at the Winter Games for Brazil and for all of South America.

Bulgaria occupies 28th place. Bulgarian athletes recorded the second most successful Winter Olympics in history for the country in terms of the number of medals won. Snowboarder Tervel Zamfirov and biathlete Lora Hristova earned bronze medals, and Bulgarian athletes made four more top 10 finishes in individual disciplines.
