Morata hints at quitting Spain national team after penalty shootout mistake

The Spaniard won the European Championship (2024) and the Nations League (2023) with the national team

After losing the Nations League final against Portugal, Spanish striker Alvaro Morata hinted that he could quit the national team.

In a statement to the media after the match, he said that in September “I might not be here anymore” with “La Roja”.

His words sound like a farewell and mark a possible end to an era for Morata, who was part of the Spanish team's attack for many years.

The hint comes after a missed penalty in the dramatic series after regular time that cost Spain the trophy.

The question remains open whether this is an emotional reaction in a moment of disappointment or the beginning of an official withdrawal from the international scene.
