Besiktas bosses have appointed former player and team coach Sergen Yalçın as their new coach, after the position became vacant after the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club announced. Yalçın, 52, who is starting his second term as coach, has agreed a deal until the end of the 2026-27 season.
Besiktas, who have won the Turkish Super Lig title 16 times, finished fourth in the league last season.
The club sacked Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Manchester United manager, on Thursday after their elimination from the Conference League.
Besiktas had already been eliminated from the Europa League by Shakhtar Donetsk in the qualifying rounds, and a loss to Swiss side Lausanne in the Conference League play-offs ended Solskjaer's tenure at the club after seven months. During Yalçın's first term as coach, Besiktas won the Turkish double in the 2020-21 season.
