Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has expressed doubts about US President Donald Trump's claim that Ukraine, supported by the European Union and NATO, can regain all the territories occupied by Russia.

In a post on social media, Tusk said that behind Trump's "amazing optimism" lies an intention to gradually reduce US involvement in the war and shift the burden of ending the conflict onto European countries.

"President Trump has stated that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, can regain all its territory. Behind this amazing optimism lies a promise to reduce US involvement and shift the responsibility for ending the war onto Europe," Tusk wrote.

He added that "truth is better than illusion", stressing the need for European leaders to be realistic about the conflict and the future role of the United States.
