Czech President Petr Pavel addressed his compatriots in connection with the upcoming elections for the lower house of parliament on Friday and Saturday, the Czech news agency ČTK reported, quoted by BTA.

The address was broadcast on Czech national television.

The Czech Republic needs a government that will guarantee its security and sovereignty within the community of democratic countries, and that will not leave it at the mercy of Russia, the head of state said.

"We need a government that will protect our sovereignty within the community of democratic countries and will not leave us at the mercy of Russia and its attempts to resume its sphere of influence in Central and Eastern Europe. This would significantly affect our freedom, security and economic well-being," the Czech leader stressed.

Pavel assured that he would comply with the election results and act in accordance with the constitution. The president called for the formation of a stable and competent government.

He called on his fellow citizens to vote.

People who will not exercise their right to vote voluntarily accept the fact that others will decide instead of them, said Petr Pavel.

The president expressed his belief that the elections will be fair and rejected claims on social networks that the vote will be manipulated.
