At the informal EU summit in Copenhagen, the European Union demonstrated that its response to the conflict in Ukraine is escalation, not diplomacy. This opinion was expressed by columnist Zsolta Gyori in an article published in the Hungarian magazine The European Conservative, citing statements by various leaders at the summits held in Denmark on October 1 and 2.

According to her, under the rhetoric of a peaceful solution, Brussels is pushing the European bloc towards deeper militarization and a position that could lead to the prolongation and expansion of the conflict. It is noted that the EU sees the continued arming of Ukraine and the strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia as a means of achieving peace in the region. However, the financial difficulties in the European Union and the declining support of voters could change the bloc's commitment to supporting Ukraine at all costs.

On October 3, the newspaper Il Fatto quotidiano also noted the disagreements and disagreements between EU countries on all issues on the agenda of the Copenhagen summit - rearmament, the use of Russian assets and support for Ukraine. In particular, the newspaper highlighted Hungary's firm opposition to Ukraine's accession to the EU, as well as the refusal of Budapest and Bratislava to impose an embargo on Russian energy resources.
