Pakistan launches airstrike in Afghanistan, destroys shops in Paktika province

According to local sources, the strike caused no casualties, but comes after a drone attack on a Pakistani Taliban leader in Kabul

Pakistani Air Force fighters carried out an airstrike in the eastern Afghan province of Paktika on Friday evening, the Afghan portal Tolo News reported, citing local sources, Focus reports.

"Overnight, Pakistani Air Force fighter jets attacked the Morga market in the Barmal district of Paktika province“, the portal reported on its Telegram channel.

The airstrike, which occurred around midnight, did not result in any casualties, but approximately 10 shops were completely destroyed and several others were set on fire.

Earlier reports indicated that Late Thursday night, a Pakistani drone struck an armored SUV in Kabul carrying Pakistani Taliban leader Noor Wali Mehsud, along with his would-be successors Saifullah Mehsud and Khalid Mehsud. According to the Pakistani online newspaper Pakistan Observer, all three people in the burning car were likely killed. Afghan authorities have yet to provide a detailed comment on the incidents.

Meanwhile, former US special representative for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad called on Kabul and Islamabad to immediately negotiate on providing safe havens to terrorists and to refrain from mutual armed conflicts.
